Get System Management BIOS table in Human readable format, DMI Decode

September 21st, 2010 No comments

Dmidecode is a tool which queries DMI/SMBIOS information and presents it in human readable form. DMIDecode runs on BSD systems and a variety of other *nix distributions. Let’s see it in action. Fire up a terminal and type:

dmidecode –t x

where x can be any of these valid type keywords:

  • bios
  • system
  • baseboard
  • chassis
  • processor
  • memory
  • cache
  • connector
  • slot
  • dmidecodet

    dmidecode –s x

where x can be any of these valid type keywords:

    • bios-vendor
    • bios-version
    • bios-release-date
    • system-manufacturer
    • system-product-name
    • system-version
    • system-serial-number
    • system-uuid
    • baseboard-manufacturer
    • baseboard-product-name
    • baseboard-version
    • baseboard-serial-number
    • baseboard-asset-tag
    • chassis-manufacturer
    • chassis-type
    • chassis-version
    • chassis-serial-number

SpeedFan : Small Spplication that shows Fan speed,Voltage and Chip temperature.

      January 21st, 2009 No comments

A small application that shows you fan speed, voltage and chip temperature.

SpeedFan is a freeware program that monitors voltages, fan speeds and temperatures in computers with hardware monitor chips. SpeedFan can even access S.M.A.R.T. info for those hard disks and show hard disk temperatures too, if supported.

SpeedFan can even change the FSB on some hardware. At the lowest level, SpeedFan is an hardware monitor software that can access temperature sensors, but its main feature is that it can change fan speeds (depending on the capabilities of the sensor chip and your hardware) according to the temperatures inside your pc, thus reducing noise. A must-have tool for users who continually stress their systems with games at higher resolutions.

SpeedFan works under Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP and Vista. SpeedFan works fine on Vista 64 bit too.

The good news for Network Engineers and System Administrators is that SpeedFan supports  SNMP extension for RIM(Remote Infrastructure Management).

Core Temp : Monitor your CPU temperature

      January 20th, 2009 No comments

Core Temp is a compact, no fuss, small footprint program to monitor CPU temperature.

The uniqueness of it is that it shows the temperature of each individual core in a each processor in your system. You can see in real time how the CPU temperature varies when you load your CPU.

Intel and AMD recently published detailed, public information about the “DTS” (Digital Thermal Sensor), which provides much higher accuracy and more relevant temperature reading than the standard thermal diode sensors do.
This feature is supported on all Intel Core and Core 2 series of processors as well as the whole AMD’s AMD64 line of CPUs.

Core Temp will also offer you a logging feature that allows a user to easily record the temperature of the processor’ cores over any period of time and features easy exporting to spreadsheet based programs. It is useful for hardcore gamers to monitor the CPU’s temperature at various screen resolutions.
