Speed up your Windows system with Autoruns, a free utility

September 20th, 2019 No comments

Autoruns is a free utility to control startup programs on Windows systems. It shows all programs that are set to automatically start when Windows is booted up.

Very often programs in the list may not be used at all . We can speed up the boot-up process and free-up the RAM used by these processes by removing them from startup list. It is possible to edit the Start-up list in Windows Registry, but it is hard to do so.

A word of caution, don’t remove your Anti-virus software or any essential device driver software from the list.

  • Uncheck the box to disable an auto start entry.

LastActivityView is a free tool for Windows operating system that collects information from various sources on a running system, and displays a log of actions made by the user and events occurred on this computer. Previously this blog introduced another nifty utility from nirsoft called USBDeview which shows USB devices currently connected to your computer, as well as the history of USB devices attached.  The activity displayed by LastActivityView includes:

  • Running .exe file
  • Opening open/save dialog-box
  • Opening file/folder from Explorer or other software
  • software installation
  • system shutdown/start
  • application or system crash
  • network connection/disconnection etc.
