Free tool to scan WiFi network in your area, and find odd ones

June 17th, 2020 No comments

Once when I was teaching at an Engineering College, scanned Wi Fi on my laptop to show students about its range and signal strength. I got an odd AP at the bottom. Wished long to identify the funny AP at the bottom.

Here is the solution. WifiInfoView scans the wireless networks in your area and displays extensive information about them, including: Network Name (SSID), MAC Address, PHY Type (802.11g or 802.11n), RSSI, Signal Quality, Frequency, Channel Number, Maximum Speed, Company Name, Router Model and Router Name (Only for routers that provides this information), and more…

Speed up your Windows system with Autoruns, a free utility

September 20th, 2019 No comments

Autoruns is a free utility to control startup programs on Windows systems. It shows all programs that are set to automatically start when Windows is booted up.

Very often programs in the list may not be used at all . We can speed up the boot-up process and free-up the RAM used by these processes by removing them from startup list. It is possible to edit the Start-up list in Windows Registry, but it is hard to do so.

A word of caution, don’t remove your Anti-virus software or any essential device driver software from the list.

  • Uncheck the box to disable an auto start entry.
