BBC marks 90th anniversary of its first radio service by special broadcast
The British Broadcasting Corporation at its 90th anniversary is making a special broadcast which will be transmitted by every BBC radio station, the first simultaneous broadcast in its history. The year 2012 saw the decline of shortwave radio transmissions, with major players Radio Canada International (RCI) and Radio Netherlands (RNW) cutting down to online broadcasts by Internet only. BBC World service is still heard by millions of people on shortwave, especially in oppressed countries where political censorship is high.
According to the official website:
A composition by Blur frontman Damon Albarn will be played to radio listeners around the world on 14th November 2012 (Wednesday) at 17:33 GMT to mark 90 years of BBC broadcasting.
Stay tuned on this historic occasion on air or online.
